"Gangotri Dham" Situated an elevation of 3,048 meters - The home of Goddess Gangotri and named after River Ganges. Gangotri temple is situated on the right bank of Bhagirathi. Kedar Ganga - The River which starts from Kedar valley is also flowing around 100 yards from Ganga Temple this river meets the Bagirathi on it's left bank which is celled Kedar Ganga Sangam. Submerged in the river, this natural rock Shivling is the place where Lord Shiva sat when he received the Ganga in his matted lock when Ganga river was brought from the heaven to earth in order to relieve the earthlings of their sins. It is visible in winter months when water level decreases.
Sri Gangotri Dham is a small village and Gangotri Temple constructed by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th Century. Evening Aarti is one of the center of attraction of Gangotri Temple.
